I. What do we do with your personal data?

1. Contract fulfilment

Personal data is information about the situation or personal circumstances of a certain or identifiable natural person. This includes data such as your name, your telephone number, your address and also all other data that you share with us when you contact us. We collect, store and process your data throughout the entire registration process, including any potential later queries, for our service providers, and for technical administration and our own marketing purposes. Your personal data is passed on to third parties only if this is necessary for contract fulfilment or billing purposes, or if you have given your respective consent beforehand. We need your correct name and address details for registration purposes. We need your email address to allow us to confirm your registration and to communicate with you. We also use this information to verify your identity. Your participation confirmation will also be sent to your email address.

2. Data storage

We store your specific order details, although you cannot access these online.

3. Additional advertising

We would like to point out that we shall use your data, also repeatedly, for our own advertising and marketing purposes in as far as this is legally admissible without asking your explicit consent. Your awareness of this fact alone does not equal your consent to the use of your data for advertising purposes.

In particular, we reserve the right to store your first and last name, your postal address and - in as far as we have received this additional information from you within the scope of the contractual relationship - your title, academic title, year of birth and job title, as well as the sector you work in or your company's name, in summarized lists, and to use these for our own advertising purposes, for instance to send you interesting offers and information about our products in the post. You can object to the storage and use of your data for these purposes at any time by sending a message to the address shown below.

If we obtain your email address in the course of the sale of goods or services, we will use this email address to advertise any of our own similar goods or services. You may object to the use of your data at any time without incurring any additional costs beyond the basic transmission fees charged by your internet provider (see the information regarding your rights below). Commercially, we will also use the telephone number for advertising purposes if a respective consent was implied.

4. Cancellation and right to cancel

When you receive an email or other advertising from us, you can of course object to the further use of your data for advertising purposes – even in as far as this is legally admissible without your consent – at any time by means of an informal message to us, or withdraw any respective consent previously given. We will of course not charge you anything extra for this. (Particularly when you send us an email message, there will be no additional costs other than your service provider's transmission fees). Just send your objection or your withdrawal of consent to one of the addresses listed below this policy.

II. Do we collect data when you visit our website?

1. Cookies

We use so-called cookies on our website. Cookies are small files that are stored on your hard disk and save specific settings and data for the purpose of data exchange with our system via your browser. This storage helps us to customize our website for you, and makes it easier for you to use our website, for instance because some of your entries are saved so you do not have to enter this information repeatedly. Cookies are automatically deleted from your hard drive again at the end your session (they are therefore also known as session cookies). However, there are also cookies that are permanently stored on your hard drive. For you convenience, their expiration date has been set to far into the future. When you next visit the website, these cookies automatically recognize that you have already visited our website before, and also your preferred information and settings. (These are so-called long-term cookies).

Protection measures available to you
Regardless of the cookie's set expiry date, you can also manually delete cookies in your browser. Most browsers accept cookies by default. The security settings allow you to permit or prohibit both temporary and permanent cookies. Besides using a browser setting that generally disables the automatic setting of cookies, you can also disable cookies by setting your browser to block cookies from a particular domain, for example "Googleadservices.com". This setting then prevents the execution of services activated by cookies from this domain.

Some web services work with opt-out cookies. On the basis of such a cookie, a web analysis service, for example, can recognize that you object to the use of cookies. Please remember, when you delete all cookies, you may have to adjust your respective settings once more.

You are of course still welcome to visit our website even if you do not accept cookies. However, if you do not accept or disable cookies, some of our website's features may not be available to you (for example services and information), and some of the pages may not be correctly displayed.

For further information regarding the use of cookies, please refer to the website of the German Association of the Digital Economy (BVDW):
http://www.meine-cookies.org

Would you please also take note of our information regarding the individual services we use and their use of cookies. These services are listed and described below.

2. Web analysis and online advertisements

You can visit our website without sharing any personal details with us. When you visit our website, we collect and store certain data even if you do so via a link in a newsletter or an advertisement. If you visit us because of a newsletter or a link in the form of an online advertisement, we will store no personal details but still access data such as, for instance:

  • the website from which you visited us
  • the type of browser you are using
  • the name of your internet provider
  • the name of the requested file
  • the products and contents that you are interested in

For this purpose, we use data that has been stored with the aid of cookies, as explained above. This data will be evaluated to improve our offer and does not make it possible for us to identify you. We will store any personal data only if you have explicitly consented to this beforehand, and we will use this data exclusively to supply you with offers and information that preferably match your interests.

Without your consent, the data is otherwise evaluated only in an anonymous or pseudonymous form (for example: Information xy was called up by 45% of visitors to the website). This allows us to match the information we provide with the interests of our readers.

Where we are made aware of data that could theoretically lead to your identification, for instance the IP address, we have ensured that this is made more difficult by using abbreviations.

Web analysis tools
(Google analytics)
This website uses Google Analytics for web analysis purposes. This is a Google Inc. ("Google") service. Google Analytics uses "cookies". The information on your usage of this website generated by the cookie (including your IP address) is transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. Google complies with the "US Safe Harbor Framework" privacy regulations and is a registered member of the US department of commerce’s "Safe Harbor” program. Google will use this information to evaluate your use of this website, to compile reports on the website activities for us, and to perform further services linked to website and internet use for us. Google may also pass this information on to third parties if this is legally required or in as far as third parties process this data on behalf of Google. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google.

You can prevent the installation of cookies by setting your browser software to do so, although we would like to point out that if you do so, you may not be able to use all of this website's functions and the services we wish to provide to their full extent.

Protection measures available to you
If you choose not to share any information about your visit to the website with Google Analytics, you can install a "disable" add-on for your browser. You can download this add-on here. However, please note that this is currently only available for Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Opera.

We have also ensured by technical means that Google Analytics deletes the last part of the IP addresses of visitors to our website. We therefore do not gain possession of any data that would allow us to identify you.

Without your explicit consent, we will not use these tracking tools to collect personal information about you without your knowledge, share such data with third parties or marketing platforms, or link this information to your personal details (name, address, etc.).

Online advertisements
Of course, we want you to find us via our contents. On the other hand, we want to ensure that in the long-term, you see less advertising that doesn't interest you on the internet. We therefore work with service providers that support us with advertising and with its control. Those service providers make so-called retargeting tools available to us that save anonymous data regarding the contents viewed by storing it on your computer in the form of cookies and subsequently evaluate this data. The data evaluated in this way is always anonymous, i.e. it is not linked to you as a person (no names or addresses). It concerns technical information such as, for instance, the display frequency and display date of advertising media, the browser used or also the operating system installed. At no time will any personal data be shared with the websites where our advertisements are displayed. In as far as IP addresses are used, these are abbreviated to ensure that it is not possible for us to identify you.

See above under "II. 1. Cookies" for an explanation of the general measures you can take to delete or disable cookies by adjusting your browser settings.

Below, you will find information on the advertising tools used on our website and those used to advertise it. You will learn in detail how you can object to the use of these tools, in particular to the use of the cookies which these tools use. IMPORTANT: once an opt-out cookie has been deleted, the fact that you chose to opt-out can no longer be proven. In this case, you must repeat the opt-out process.

They do not serve personal identification purposes. When you visit our website, Google and we can see that you followed a link in our advertisement. This data enables us to determine the number of users who have clicked on our advertisement.

Protection measures available to you

3. Right to object to user profiles

According to Art. 15 Section 3 and Art. 13 Section 1 of the German Telemedia Act (TMG), you have the right to object to the creation of user profiles using pseudonyms. If you have any questions about the protection measures explained and about our security measures, please feel free to contact us. (See below for contact details).

4. Social plugins (Facebook etc.)

We have installed so-called social plugins on our website. These are small programs that link information about you visiting our website to your data associated with the use of a particular social media platform, for example if you are a Facebook user and share this information with that platform. The same applies to the Google+ "Google +1 button".

Please note that personal data which is stored by service providers not based in EU countries is also often stored in non-EU countries and subject to the respective legislation in these countries. We would like to point out that as the provider of our website, we do not have any authoritative knowledge of the content of the transmitted data and its use by social media platforms.

If you would like to protect yourself against data transmission, we generally recommend that you log off such social media platforms before visiting our website, and also log off again after logging in to such services.

"2 clicks" – the following applies to all of the social plugins mentioned:
In order to afford you better control over the transmission and use of your data, the respective buttons are initially inactive (which is indicated by the fact that they are shown in gray and by mouseover) when you call up a page on this website. A connection to the respective social plugin server as described above will only be established when you activate the corresponding social plugin by clicking on the button shown.

(Facebook)
For example, when you are logged in with Facebook (www.facebook.com, operated by Facebook Ireland Limited Hanover Reach, 5-7 Hanover Quay, Dublin 2 Ireland –"Facebook") and visit our website, your browser automatically establishes a connection with Facebook's servers, and your browser will integrate data related to your Facebook account on our website. At the same time, Facebook is informed about your visit to our website, and about the contents you have called up (time of your visit and the fact that you have visited).

The plugins are clearly labeled, for example with a respective logo ("f Like" button or a "thumbs-up" sign and/or with a footnote indicating this service. You can get an overview of all Facebook plugins and what they look like here: http://developers.facebook.com/plugins.

When you activate a social plugin, for example by clicking on the Facebook "Like" button or by posting comments or by using any of the other features provided by Facebook, the information shared in this way is transmitted to Facebook and stored for further use related to your Facebook account, and processed in accordance with Facebook's terms and conditions. Please refer to the Facebook data protection information to learn more about the purpose and extent of this data collection, about the further processing of this data and its use by Facebook and also about your respective rights and the privacy setting options: http://www.facebook.com/policy.php

If you are not a Facebook member or are not logged in to your account at the time of your visit, Facebook may still discover and store your IP address.

Protection measures available to you
You can protect yourself by using blockers that are compatible with your browser, for example the "Facebook Blocker" (http://webgraph.com/resources/facebookblocker ).

(Google +)
When you use the Google+ social plugin (provided by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA – "Google"), the "g+1" button, also called the "Google +1" button, Google will link your recommendation to your personal Google +1 account, and the contents and any comments you posted may be made public under your Google+ name and profile picture.

Buttons labeled "+1" on a white or colored background, for example, and/or a footnote that points out this service indicate the availability of these plugins. You can get an overview of all Google plugins and what they look like here: https://developers.google.com/+/plugins.

When you access a page of our website that features such a plugin, your browser establishes a direct connection to Google's servers. Google transmits the plugin content directly to your browser and integrates it on the web page. This integration then provides Google with the information that your browser has called up the respective page on our website even if you do not have a Google+ profile or are currently not logged in to Google+. Your browser transmits this information (including your IP address) directly to a Google server in the USA and it is stored there.

If you are logged in to Google+, Google can allocate your visit to our website directly to your Google+ profile. When you interact with the plugins, for example by clicking on the "+1" button, the corresponding information will also be transmitted directly to a Google server and stored there. The information will also be published on Google+ and shared with your contacts there.

Please refer to the Google data protection information to learn more about the purpose and extent of this data collection, about the further processing of this data and its use by Google and also about your respective rights and the privacy setting options: https://developers.google.com/+/web/buttons-policy

Protection measures available to you
If you do not wish Google to allocate the data collected through our website directly to your Google+ profile, you must log out of your Google+ account before visiting our website. You can also generally disable the loading of Google plugins with add-ons for your browser, for example with a script blocker such as "NoScript" (http://www.noscript.net/ ).

XING
This website uses the "Share" button of XING AG, Gänsemarkt 43, 20354 Hamburg, Germany. When you call up one of our website pages that features such a plugin, your browser establishes a direct connection to the XING servers. XING transmits the plugin content directly to your browser. XING receives the general information that your browser has accessed a page featuring the "Share" button.

When you interact with the plugins, for instance by clicking on the XING button, the corresponding information is sent directly to the XING server and stored there.

Protection measures available to you
XING does not store any IP addresses. XING will also not analyze your user behavior. See here for the latest data protection information associated with the "Share" button, and other data privacy information: https://www.xing.com/app/share?op=data_protection

III. How do we protect your personal data?

When you place an order, your personal data is encrypted and transmitted securely. We use an SSL encryption system (secure socket layer) for this purpose. We employ technical and organizational measures to safeguard our website and other systems against loss, destruction, access, unauthorized editing and the sharing of your data by unauthorized persons. You should always close your browser window as soon as you have finished communicating with us, especially if you are not the only person who uses this computer.

IV. What are my rights?

You have the right to object to the use of data for advertising purposes and to the creation of user profiles using pseudonyms.

Your rights as per the German Federal German Data Protection Act include the right to obtain information about the data stored and linked to you free of charge; you also have the right to have this data corrected, blocked or deleted. If you have any questions about the collection, processing or use of personal data, or data disclosure, correction, blocking or deletion, all you have to do is to contact us at the address provided below.
